As one of the century-old nursery growers who specializes in boxwoods states, "avoiding conditions that are conducive to Volutella is the best means to control it." Fungicides cannot cure existing infection but might prevent new infections if they work well. Due to treatments being costly and impractical for a disease more easily prevented by proactive pruning, plant care, and disease-resistant cultivar selection, plus the fact that fungicides do not always succeed in preventing new infections and may risk harming other organisms, we usually do not recommend their use in situations like this.
There are no specific fungicides recommended for Volutella, though if you attempt one regardless, make sure it is labeled for treating this particular fungus and follow its instructions carefully, as re-application multiple times per year (each year) may be needed to suppress reinfection.

The stem damage sometimes used by Volutella to take advantage of an easier entry into the plant might have occurred as long ago as a full year or two, making it hard to pinpoint when infection actually set in. We find Volutella to be one of the most commonplace boxwood diseases. We agree this looks like Volutella and the spore color described also suggests this fungus is present and responsible for the branch dieback. We do not see classic symptoms of Boxwood Blight in the photos, but since we can't enlarge them to see enough detail (like the black streaks you mention), you can use the information on the linked page plus our boxwood diagnostic page to determine what issues may be present.
